Swim meets are a great learning experience
for swimmers to gain the competitive edge and a fun way to interact
with swimmers from other swim clubs.
When you enter the school there is a
designated area for all swimmers to meet, usually a gym or cafeteria.
Each swimmer should arrive for warm ups so that the swimmer can get
orientated to the pool and the coach can advise them at that time.
After the warm ups, the swimmer will return to the swimmers meeting
area and wait until their event number is called. At that time, the
swimmer will be lined up depending upon the heat and lane they are
entered in. (Assistance and direction is provided by the meet host's
clerk of course.)
Writing on the hand of the swimmer with
the Event/Heat/Lane information is an easy way for the swimmer to
remember their events. A highlighter is useful for quick referencing
the event/heats of your swimmer. An adult should be present in the
swimmer's meeting area at all times as the coach is required to be in
the pool area for all events.
A typical morning or afternoon session
will run approximately 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Your swimmer (s) may be
finished before the session is completed depending upon the number
events that he/she has entered in.
Items to bring: Blanket, folding chairs,
pillow, towels (approximately 1 for each event entered), extra socks,
snacks, drinks, quiet entertainment or homework!
**When you sign up for a meet, you will be
expected to swim in a relay. If for some reason you will be unable to
swim in the relay due to extenuating circumstances, the coach must be
notified on or before the meet entry deadline.
